As WE Approach

The time is approaching when we will all take a collective sigh and look back in time.  Some of us will wonder what made us take that flight the day before; despite the excruciating pain we were in; others will be so grateful for oversleeping; or the traffic jam that made them miss their flights.  Many will marvel at spilled coffee that caused them to change and be late; or sick children; or missed buses; however we will all take the time to pray for those who did die and those who did try to help and are now suffering for it.  Many are criticizing President Bush for his reaction to the news that day; I can only say; How he remained so calm in a room full of children and finished up in a manner that showed no fear or panic required tremendous strength of character.  The only thing that really changed were his eyes and if you were watching live you knew; you just knew.  I say these things mainly because over the years I have been less than the best supporter of the Bush years; but on that day, I knew because of his eyes; as the report hit the screen it was true.  I was proud of him in that moment because he did not scare the children; that would come soon enough on it's own; Life is funny like that.  He did break protocol by not letting them rush him off to a secure location and then Air Force One until this was sorted out; he gave those eager kids their moment in the sun.
