It was Time to Say Good bye

Yesterday I said goodbye to my faithful friend of many years.  He was a Jack Russell Terrier we received by default.  During the first few years He drove me crazy because from day one he attached himseld to my right leg.  If I moved he moved with me.  At night he always seemed to need to go out at least twice; I thought just my luck a dog with the smallest bladder in the world is mine!  We named him Jack because it just seemed to fit.  He bit everyone who came near me; and a few others for good measure.  I was his and he made sure everyone knew it.  Eventually he developed a problem with one eye and it was removed and he becme a one eyed jack.  Then one day: how strange now that I think of it: exactly 7 years ago I collapsed in the middle of the night, and he as always was there.  The ruckus that he made caused the neighbors to look and see me and call 911.  He did all he could to keep everyone away from me until my husband came to my aide.  After surgery for multiple heart issues; I came home and he was finally able to sleep through the night!  He no longer felt the need to stick by me like glue or get up twice a night;  it was like he was saying your slow but sure and now I can rest.  I have treasured the last 6 years treating him like the hero he was; because I would not be here typing this but for him!  He will be missed more than I can say; however I learned from him, and I live I believe because of him!
